How gifts reach you

How cash gift payments are processed, when they settle to your bank, and what fees apply.

Last updated

When a guest contributes to a cash gift fund, the payment goes directly to your connected gateway account. Our Big Yes is not involved in the money flow at all. Here is exactly what happens from the moment a guest clicks "Contribute" to when the money arrives in your bank.

The payment flow

The journey of a cash gift is straightforward:

  1. A guest clicks a fund on your registry and enters the amount they want to give.
  2. They complete payment using your connected gateway's secure checkout (card, EFT, or other methods your gateway supports).
  3. The payment is processed directly by your gateway and credited to your gateway account.
  4. Your gateway settles funds to your bank account on its own schedule (typically within 1 to 3 business days, depending on the gateway).

Our Big Yes never holds, receives, or passes through guest payments.

What fees apply

Two costs are relevant:

  • Our Big Yes: R0. We take 0% of gift contributions.
  • Your payment gateway: your gateway charges its standard processing fee on each transaction. This fee is set by your gateway, not by us. Check your gateway's pricing page for the exact rate.

The processing fee is typically deducted before the funds settle to your bank, so the net amount you receive is the guest contribution minus the gateway fee.

Viewing contributions

You can see each contribution in two places:

  • Our Big Yes dashboard: go to Registry to see a log of contributions per fund, including the guest name, amount, and date.
  • Your gateway dashboard: log in to your gateway (Paystack, Yoco, PayFast, iKhokha or Stripe) to see full transaction details and manage payouts.

Track thank-yous from the registry

The contribution log in your registry also lets you track which gifts you have thanked guests for. Mark a contribution as thanked once you have sent a thank-you note or message.

Note

If a guest's payment fails, they will see an error from the gateway and can retry. Failed payments do not appear as contributions in your registry log.
